iPhone XS Max reviews – One of the flagship features of the iPhone XS and XS Max duo that are widely mentioned at launch is that the camera’s capabilities are claimed to be more capable.
However, even iPhone XS Max as the most expensive iPhone throughout Apple’s history even though it was not able to beat Huawei P20 Pro in testing by DXO Mark, a reference site for the image quality testing of digital devices.
DXO Mark delivers a final score of 105 points for iPhone XS Max. Its position is number two, under the Huawei P20 Pro (109 points) to be the best camera holder of the title smartphone, according to DXO Mark.
Tests conducted by DXO Mark to measure the camera’s capabilities of a wide range of devices, including exposure tests, low-light capabilities, colour accuracy, autofocus, up to dynamic range and video quality.
As a result, as with the Android Authority, the iPhone XS Max camera is called to be best for the current size of the smartphone and is only lost to the Huawei P20 Pro equipped with three cameras.
“In addition to being able to produce quality photos in bright light conditions, iPhone XS Max camera is also very reliable to always produce nice images, ” commented DXO Mark.
Nevertheless, in some tests, it is evident that the iPhone XS Max camera is still not capable of matching Huawei P20 Pro
DXO Mark also highlights the results of the camera shots when the zoom looks rougher than the Huawei P20 Pro. The iPhone XS Max at night also appears to be desaturated so that the colors look less bright.
More software
iPhone XS Max has a main camera with a 12-megapixel resolution paired with an F/1.8 wide angle lens with an aperture of Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS).
Each photodiode (pixels) on its image sensor is 1.4 micrometers, larger than that of the iPhone X (1.22 micrometer) so that it should result in a better shot.
The second camera on the back of iPhone XS Max also has a resolution of 12 megapixels, but with a smaller pixel size (1 micrometer). The camera features a 2x telephoto lens with F/2.4 aperture and OIS.
Although there is a change from the software side, DXO Mark says the biggest increase of iPhone XS Max from earlier iPhone X actually exists in terms of software. The camera software is more capable, too, that Apple emphasized in the launch event.
Described by DXO Mark, the iPhone XS Max camera continuously records multi-frame buffers with different exposures. Walresult, the phone has a very small shutter lag, as well as High-Dynamic Range (HDR) which can be previews in real time.
“This preview function (real time HDR) is not currently available on any competitor from the iPhone,” continued DXO Mark, as summarized.
Video capability, iPhone XS Max is capable of recording 4K video with frame rate of up to 60 FPS or Full-HD (1,920 x 1,080) to 240 FPS.
